Las historias de la costa - Mural de las dunas de Guadalupe<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

<\/span><\/p>\n

El mural \"Historias de la Costa \u2013 Dunas de Guadalupe\" fue un proyecto realizado con gran dedicaci\u00f3n por la reconocida muralista local Colleen Gnos. Colleen fue seleccionada entre un amplio y talentoso grupo de artistas para dise\u00f1ar y pintar el mural, que se encuentra en la pared de la esquina de West Main Street (Carretera 166) y Calle Cesar Chavez, junto al Parque Jack O\u2019Connell. Los vibrantes colores del mural lo hacen claramente visible tanto para los veh\u00edculos como para los peatones que se dirigen a la zona de la playa de las dunas de Rancho Nipomo.<\/span><\/p>\n

No contenta con simplemente plasmar una \"idea\" en la pintura, Colleen se sumergi\u00f3 en una profunda investigaci\u00f3n local, hablando con historiadores de la zona, la Sociedad Hist\u00f3rica Rancho De Guadalupe, el Museo y Centro Cultural Chumash de Santa Ynez y entrevistando a residentes locales. El resultado es una visi\u00f3n espectacular de la historia de Guadalupe; una instant\u00e1nea visual de tiempos pasados, donde cada parte del mural cuenta historias de personas cuyas voces no siempre fueron escuchadas.<\/span><\/p>\n

Los espectadores m\u00e1s observadores podr\u00e1n encontrar (entre muchas otras cosas): hierba de tule, br\u00f3coli, la Estrella Polar, un halc\u00f3n peregrino, un oso grizzly, salvia costera y una mariposa Almirante Roja. Tambi\u00e9n ver\u00e1n una danza de la barracuda de los Chumash, el antiguo restaurante Bud Wong and Chicago Chop Suey, trabajadores mixtecos, Joe Harris, Harry Masatani y Gilbert Robles. Hay a\u00fan m\u00e1s en el mural, as\u00ed que no duden en visitarlo y admirarlo en su totalidad... \u00a1a ver qu\u00e9 m\u00e1s descubren!<\/span><\/p>\n

I was honored to be selected to paint the Coastal Stories Mural commissioned by the Dunes Center and Coastal Conservancy.\u00a0 This public art\u00a0amplifies the voices and history of under represented communities in Guadalupe, CA, including the Chumash, Mixtecs, Japanese, Filipino and African Americans.<\/span>

My mural reflects a rich narrative of the history of this fascinating town. I did extensive research for this project including: working with a Chumash expert at the Chumash museum; reviewing photos, books and letters; listening to podcasts; interviewing dozens of individuals and subject experts; and exploring accounts of local history.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I painted the 25 foot long mural in sections on polytab fabric in my studio, using a 20′ custom easel, built by my husband, Che Miller. He also helped me prepare the wall surface and install the final mural sections.<\/span>

Primed it, filled gaps with patching compound, primed it again. This wall is ready for a mural! <\/span><\/p>\n
